About this reference
Individual finisher records (age category, sex, finish time) for the London Marathon, published as open data under CC-BY-4.0. FitnessNorms derives finish-time percentiles by age bracket and sex directly from the raw rows of the 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 editions.
Known limitations
- Survivorship cohort: finishers only, not entrants; non-finishers (DNF) are excluded by definition.
- Single course and climate, so values may not generalise to all marathons.
- Self-selected event population. Sex recorded as a binary field.
- The source 80-84 and 85+ categories are collapsed into a single 80+ bracket to harmonise across editions.
- The pool covers the 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 editions; the 2021 edition is excluded as a COVID-affected outlier with an atypical field (the only year with more female than male finishers and an inverted pace pattern).
- The oldest brackets (75-79 and 80+) are omitted from published norms for insufficient sample size after this exclusion.
