Cooper 1.5-Mile Run: Source and Display Method
FitnessNorms reproduces the P5, P25, P50, P75, and P95 rows of the CCS Cooper Standards table for ages 20-29 through 70-79. CCS does not disclose the sample, collection period, or derivation behind this table.
- Distance: 1.5 miles is 2.414 km, not exactly 2.4 km.
- Storage: elapsed times are stored as decimal minutes and rendered as minutes and seconds.
- Direction: the site stores values in ascending numeric order. For this lower-is-better test, the source's high-performance percentile maps to the low numeric column.
- Meaning: these are descriptive age/sex rankings. The named CCS categories do not establish a validated minimum job cutoff.
The current numeric table was manually corrected before this review and is preserved exactly. Automated OCR and reviewer readings of scanned images are used to flag differences, not to overwrite a published value. Permanent checks lock the reviewed data and verify that age and trend pages remain consistent with it.
The Cooper Institute 2013 monograph contains a different 1.5-mile table. After converting the scanned times to decimal minutes, 58 of the 60 selected cells differ from the CCS grid. The difference is recorded rather than reconciled by assumption: this page cites CCS directly and does not attach the monograph's Cooper Clinic sample counts to CCS values.
The protocol summary is checked against current Cooper-derived law-enforcement directions from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and the Pennsylvania MPOETC. These administration sources support reproducible procedure; they are not the source of the percentile values.
